Intro

This is a collection of info that I have gathered from a variety of sources, all of whom were present at E3. None of this info is 100% confirmed, but I believe it to be accurate.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy at E3

Here is a quote from DarkHugh, game review for Critic's Choice Online:

It wasn't at the N64 section, but Williams had a tossed-together work-in-progress version. The
screen had 26 characters, with two spaces for others, one was a question mark, one was an MK
symbol. Sub Zero and Smoke were back to human and the old characters had new moves (I saw
Baraka use a new spin attack). There were the tournament modes from UMK3 or regular
MK-style one-on-one.

I found a press release on MK Trilogy in the N64 section.

Here's the scoop: all of this info is according to this article:

After only three months in development, it has characters from all the games and two or three new
characters. The selection screen features 26 kombatants from which to choose and 27
backgrounds. There will be "tons" of new kombat kodes, the option to fight using boss characters,
four towers of challenge and new moves including fatalitites and babalities. Players will find one,
two and four-fighter modes.

They go on to get quotes from Williams people about how good the game is and how it defines
2-D fighting and then they pat themselves on the back for having an arcade-perfect translation in
three months.

According to the Williams' press release, the same game will be released for the PSX and N64...
for PSX, it's MK Trilogy, for N64, it's MK 64.

Misc Info

The game was on display in an arcade cabinet with "N64" on the sides and it had Nintendo 64 controllers. Two new (but not new) characters were Rain and Noob. Rain had a force ball move something similar to Reptile's. He also had this move where he roundhouses the opponent and they fly through the screen and land on the other side. Some people believed it to be a bug that they haven't gotten around to fixing yet. Noob (supposedly) has a teleport move where he grabs the opponent and slams them .. but it didn't do that much damage. The game had MK3 style Kombat Kodes on the vs. screen but there were new graphics drawn for the old characters. But these new graphics didn't appear to look so hot, as if they weren't finished yet.

All of the characters so far have the ability to run just like characters in MK3. The old characters do not appear to have chain combos (the ones where you press a series of buttons and the game gives you an auto-combo), not yet anyway. One last note about this game is that some of the fatalities were seen. The only one I know specifically is Baraka's Blade lift fatality.

It is said by some that the PSX MK Trilogy was at E3, but it wasn't as far along in development as MK 64. Others tell me the PSX MK Trilogy wasn't there at all. Another report said that a Sega Genesis version of this game was on display, but no screenshots or info to back this up.

Well, that's about all for now. You can email me with any questions, comments or whatever. I do not have release dates for these games and if you're going to ask a question about them, if it's not on this page, then I probably don't have an answer. Also, don't forget to Click here if you havne't seen the MK 64/ MK Trilogy picture galleries.
