DISCLAIMER: This story is fan fiction. It has not been authorized by Midway entertainment in any way, shape or form. So there. Raiden, Thunder God "Hear me mortals! Raiden has arrived!" Those were my words, arrogant and self-assured, as I arrived on Shang Tsung's island to participate in his fabled "Tournament". The necromancer had invited me to this tournament, and I accepted. He was in truth in saying that the other gods looked down upon me as almost a mortal, and that I held the lowest position in the hierarchy of gods. I wouldn't have been if that bitch of a goddess Athena hadn't...but that's another story. I thought that this tournament would bring my status among the gods higher, back to my old glory... As I arrived, I saw the necromancer Shang Tsung run to my side, welcoming me to his illustrious "Tournament". The mortal fool then saw me in the human for I had taken. It was a commanding form, over 7 feet in height, wearing a simple white peaseant's uniform, complete with a cone-shaped straw hat that hid most of my human face. But when you could see my eyes, they were a pupiless white, and they glowed. Every few seconds, a blue spark of electricity flew up my legs. Yes, it was very impressive. You could tell that the mortal was having second thoughts about me. But it was too late, for I had arrived. I was brought to my quarters, which were almost too small for my awesome frame to fit in. But I did not expect comfort, even from this snivelling coward. I was asked to rest, I strangely enough, I felt the need to sleep, something I had never had to do before. But then again, I had never been a mortal before. The next morning, I was awoke by a messenger from the gods. It was from Zeus. He was wondering why the hell I was wasting my time with these mortals. I promptly told him to kiss my ass and leave me alone. I took the opportunity to take a look at where I would triumph. There was a lavish throne room, a elaborate courtyard, and curiously enough, a platform suspended over a Pit, where at the bottom there was many sword blades sticking out of the ground, some having fresh bodies impaled on them. There was also another courtyard, near the Palace Gates, where there were eight statues. The one in the middle was of this large, four-armed, half-human dragon. His name was Goro, and I had heard and seen him before. He was very powerful, and his strength almost rivaled that of a god. There was a statue of me in my human form, and it was a good replication of my form. Then there was a statue of a Lin Kuei assassin. I wrinkled my brows in disgust as I thought of the Lin Kuei. A clan of ninja that would kill anybody...for the right price. Next, strangely, there was a statue of another Lin Kuei. But...he did not seem to be a Lin Kuei. The arrogance in his stance did not suggest that of a assassin, but that of someone looking for revenge. There was a statue of a thug named Kano. He was a member of a cult of thieves called the Black Dragons. I had indirectly thwarted him other times in the past. There was a statue of a woman next, her name was Sonya Blade. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Armed Forces, and had been tracking Kano down ever since he had killed her twin brother Daniel. Next there was a statue of a Shaolin fighting monk. I believed this mortal's name to be Liu Kang. The Shaolin fighting monks were a favorite of mine, and I watched over them time to time. The last statue was that of an American actor, John Carlton. He was better known as Johnny Cage, and I knew he would not last long in the Tournament, for he was too arrogant for a mortal. I was handed a slip of paper that had my battle plan written upon it. I had to fight the thug Kano first. I knew that this would be easy. We fought in the Throne Room, where that soul-stealing demon Shang sung stood and watched every second of our battle. As a strangely familiar voice said, "Round One...Fight!" I launched my body at Kano in a torpedo attack that only a god could perform. I pushed him and crushed his body into a wall. He got up and reached into his boot. There was a flash, and I felt something I had never felt before...pain. I looked down and there was a knife sticking out of my chest. I pulled it out and tossed it to the ground. I threw a blue bolt of electricity at him, which struck him and wrapped around his body. I then did the torpedo attack, and he fell to the ground. The familiar voice said, "Raiden wins." I raised my hand to the sky and two bolts of lightning struck my hands. I heard a clapping sound and I turned to see Shang Tsung standing, clapping his hands. The guards revived Kano for the second round, which was exactly the same. After taking quite a bit of punishment, Kano simply stood there, swaying as if drunken. The voice said, "FINISH HIM!" I smiled, and came close to Kano. The sky darkened as I called lightning from the sky to me, and as it struck my hands, I channeled it towards Kano's head. He started to glow a bluish color, until his head exploded. It was only after I raised my hands to the sky in victory that I heard the voice again, saying, "Raiden wins. Fatality." I turned and saw Shang Tsung, with a happy, refreshed look on his face, and I knew he had taken the soul of Kano. Oh well, the thug had deserved it. After purging the human's blood from my person, I went to the courtyard to witness another battle, this one between Liu Kang and Johnny Cage. The American didn't stand a chance, but he did win one round. He did it in a coward's way though, doing his shadow kick and then foot sweeping the Shaolin until he couldn't get up. At the end of the third round, it was Cage who swayed drunkenly as the voice said, "Finish Him!" Liu Kang, however, looked confused. I watched, anticipating the gory way that Kang w ould dispatch his opponent. Instead of killing him, however, Liu Kang did a windmill kick, ending it with a fierce uppercut that landed right on the actor's chin. Shang Tsung looked disappointed because he did not get the actor's soul. Drat. I was glad for the actor. Almost no mortal deserved what had happened to Kano. Almost. The next fight wasn't until later that night. I wandered around, until I saw a yellow Lin Kuei uniform. I said, "Beware Lin Kuei. I do not like your clan." He turned to me and said, "I am no Lin Kuei. Do not anger me, for I am Scorpion!" He then saw who I was. He looked at me scornfully and said, "What does Raiden want with a bunch of mortals!" His eyes were not normal. they constantly changed color, signifying that this man was undead, and an immortal like myself. I said, "That is of no concern to you, Scorpion. I can, as a god, revoke your immortality, so do not tempt me." He did not seem to be afraid, and said, "I have no quarrel with you, thunder god. My quarrel is with that Lin Kuei coward, Sub-Zero. He killed me, and now I will kill him." "Is that the piddling reason why you have chosen to return form the dead?? Ha! Revenge is trifling compared to most anything else.!" He said, "Well, we shall see who remains standing after our battle, thunder god." He walked away, obviously going to watch the fight about to start. I went too, interested in seeing the mortals fight. This fight was Sonya Blade vs. Kano!! I could not believe my eyes!! Until I realized that now that I had killed Kano and Shang Tsung had possession of his soul, he could be reanimated again and again. It did not matter much to me at the time, however, as the match started. Sonya, for being a woman, was an extremely good fighter. But it was to no avail, because pretty soon she was swaying drunkenly and the voice was saying, "Finish Him!" Kano smiled and drew close to her. The sky grew dark as Kano l ifted his hand to the sky, plunged it into Sonya's chest, and pulled out her still beating heart. "I looked up to the sky, and to my surprise, saw Athena standing there with a smile. Kano had sacrificed the woman to the goddess of war. But, to my amusement, she would not be getting this sacrifice, for Shang Tsung had already collected her soul. Kano turned to the looking to the crowd for applause. He saw me and yelled, "You!!! Yeah you!! The one in funky hat!! Your mine!! You killed me once!! Never again!!!" Arrogant fool. The next morning I saw Liu Kang fight a blue-uniformed Lin Kuei. He must have been Sub-Zero because he had mastered the elemental powers of ice and cold. The Shaolin fought well, but to no avail, for the Lin Kuei assassin heard the very familiar voice say, "Finish Him!" As the sky grew dark, Sub-Zero moved close to Liu Kang and in one fluid movement, ripped his head off, with the spinal cord still attached. Shang Tsung greedily collected his soul. I had a fight with the actor, John Carlton, next. I crushed him with my torpedo attack and then let loose a volley of punches to the jaw. Each hit let loose a spray of blood form the actor's face. I ended the volley with an upper cut that sent him flying through the air. But, then he got up and shadow kicked me until I did something I had never done before... I fell. The second round went much the same way. This time, however, it was me swaying drunkenly, and Cage getting the "Finish Him!" The sky grew dark, and the actor crouched down, and let loose with a powerful uppercut. The last thing I heard was a ripping sound, and then my head flew up into the sky. Shang Tsung went to collect my soul, but I was to have none of that. After all, I was still a god. I woke in human form the next morning to face Scorpion. I beat him with ease, but let him live so he could get revenge. I then defeated Liu Kang, Sonya, Cage, Sub-Zero, and finally, a sorcerous doppleganger of myself. I then defeated all of the fighters again in the endurance matches, finishing Kano, Sonya, and Cage for a final time. Next thing I know, I am at the bottom of the Pit fighting a green ninja named Reptile. He had the powers of Scorpion's harpoon and Sub-Zero's ice. But this was to no avail. I killed him easily. He was no match for my awesome powers.. The next thing I know, I am fighting against this large orange behemoth. Goro! I smile to myself, because I am a god, and Goro is no match for a god. No mortal may have defeated him in 500 years, but I am no mortal!!! I am Raiden, Thunder God!!! I crushed him with my torpedo attack, and threw my electricity until he was a blackened corpse. I then yelled, "SHANG TSUNG!!!!! I warned you!! Now you must fight a god, you soul-stealing mortal!!!" He yelled, "You have defeated Goro!!! Now you die!!" He forgets, I cannot die!! He jumped down to fight me, and all of a sudden, I remember who the voice is. It is Shao Khan, master of Shang Tsung. But I had no time to think about this, for Tsung lets out a barrage of flaming skulls towards me. I block these with no difficulty, and then teleport right next to him. I hit him with the electricity, and then, to my surprise, he morphs in to Scorpion! I feel something embed itself into my chest, and I hear a sharp twang, as if a rope was pulled taut. He yells, "GET OVER HERE", and pulls me over. He hits me with an uppercut, and then morphs back into his old self. I crush him against the wall with my torpedo attack and the uppercut him. He falls, and I have won the first round. The second round start immediately afterwards, for Tsung gets right back up. I attack relentlessly, and throw my electricity often. He morphs into me, however, and I am subjected to my own torpedo. He makes the mistake of using my electricity against me. HA! I am the Thunder God!! I turn it back towards him, and it travels up and down his body. He lets out a scream and falls to the ground. I have won!! The souls of the warriors fallen in battle fly out of his body, and they come to me. I have the souls of all six of them. I also posses all of the souls he has ever stolen. This gi ves me enough power to take over the Earth Realm and disrupt the Celestial Bureaucracy. I take my rightful place in charge of the gods. Even that snivelling bitch Athena does whatever I choose!! It has been a while since the Tournament. Everything has gone well. I am in charge, and none of the gods dare to challenge my powers. Ah yes, being a god has its perks! (Author's Note: This story is based on the story given when you defeat Shang Tsung with Raiden in the arcade version of Mortal Kombat. It is NOT what Midway says happens in Mortal Kombat ][ It also had several Roman gods involved in it. It is me who has my mythology screwed up, not you. Have a nice day.) -- Did you ever wonder where all of the rubber bands and paper clips from your desk drawer go to? Those are the kinds of things thst i worry about...
