Also, sorry if Sub-Zero beats your favorite character, but hey, the story is about him and it wouldn't be much of a story if he lost all the time. :) -Jim Sub-Zero, Part 3 > This must be the portal Raiden told me about. I looked into >it. I could see lightning striking occasionally across the >center. My stomach was tied up in knots, but I knew that Shang >Tsung was on the other side. After another moment of hesitation, >I jumped in. Faster and faster I flew through the void. Red light filled my eyes from every direction. I was floating between worlds, between realities. My body was filled with a sudden electric shock, as lightning struck through me. Suddenly, I felt myself being pulled in a direction that I did not know existed. More red light, then darkness....... I awoke face down on a stone floor, gasping for breath. A figure in a brownish robe was kneeling over me. "He survived, Master!" he said. "Excellent" The voice was deep and came from nowhere. The man in the robe, who seemed to be floating, touched me with some sort of glowing rod. I felt my strength returning. I stood up and looked around. The room, where ever it was, was filled with a reddish light from. I turned and saw the churning red vortex, through which I undoubtedly just came. I could feel a wind blowing towards me as though coming from the other side. "Sub-Zero!" a voice yelled. "Cage told me about you. I'm going to rip your head off!" I looked over and noticed the Major who came through the portal just before I did. His uniform was gone. All he was wearing was red and black spandex pants and his combat boots. I turned to the robed man and asked "Who is he?" "That is Jax. You and he are to fight. Since it is your first match in this 'tournament', I shall explain the rules. There really aren't any. The first one to win two rounds wins the fight. After defeating your opponent, he is at your mercy. You have the option to kill him. Any questions?" My heart dropped into my stomach. The last thing I wanted to do was to enter Shang Tsung's tournament. I just wanted to kill him and get it over with. I eyed Jax. He was definitely much stronger than I was, but he didn't really seem to be overly agile. Hopefully, he wasn't as skillful a fighter as I was. "You no good assassin!" Jax yelled. "This time you're going to feel what it's like to have your blood spilled!" Wow, he was in a foul mood. I wonder what Cage had told him. The robed men moved back from us. A voice yelled "FIGHT!" Jax started walking towards me. He pulled his arm back and punched the ground with all his might. I staggered back after the shock. He was a lot stronger than I thought. Or perhaps his powers were just increased in here in the Outworld. I decided not to stand around and find out. He was almost right on top of me now. I threw a blast of cold at him. No good. He had ducked! I tried it again, but once again, he ducked. I guess Cage had told him a lot more about me than I thought. I tried a third time, but this time, instead of ducking it, he jumped over it and planted his boot square on my face, knocking me backwards. Before I got a chance to hit the ground, I felt his arms wrap around my abdomen. My back made a splintering noise as we landed, cracking on his shoulder. I fell to the ground hard and clambered to my feet. Before I had a chance to see which way was up, I felt a hand grab the front of my uniform. "Gotcha!" Jax lifted me up off the ground proceeded to punch my face. I lost count after the first two. He then picked me up like I was nothing and slammed me to the ground. He repeated this action about four times. "Jax wins. Flawless Victory." The room was spinning, my back was aching, and I felt like my jaw had been broken. Suddenly, however, all the pain was gone. One of the robed men had touched me with one of those glowing rods. I stood up. Jax was still in his victory pose, flexing his muscles. He turned and looked at me. "You want some more? You want some more?!?! This time, I'M GONNA KILL YOU, CHUMP!" The robed men stepped back. "ROUND TWO. FIGHT!" Jax launched some sort of energy wave at me, which hit me in the face. I was, however ready for his second one, which I ducked. Before he got a chance to recover, I launched a ball of cold at him. This time, it connected. I walked over to his blue tinted form and looked him over briefly. I lashed out with my roundhouse kick, connecting with his frozen jaw. I launched myself into the air and kicked him in the chest. Before he hit the ground, I slid into his ankles. He stood up and tried to reach for my uniform again, but instead, I grabbed his arm and pulled him towards me as I uppercutted him in the face. Once again I slid into his ankles, only this time, I didn't let him get up. As he tried, I knocked his legs out from under him. I repeated my foot sweep a second and third time. All three times, he landed hard. After that, he didn't get back up. I raised my arm in victory. "Sub-Zero wins!" Where was that voice coming from? The robed men led me back to the other side of the room. I watched as one of them touched Jax with a glowing rod. Apparently, the rods had the power to completely heal someone at one touch. One of those could come in really handy. I decided that later, I would try and acquire one, but right now, I had more important things on my mind....Jax. He stood across the room, glaring at me. Apparently, he didn't have much to say this time. "Round three. FIGHT!" Jax launched himself into the air, trying to kick me again. I stepped backwards and froze the ground where I figured he would be landing. Sure enough, I was on target. Jax landed on the patch of ice and started flailing around, trying to keep his balance. I roundhouse kicked him in the side of the head, sending him reeling backwards. I immediately jump-kicked him in the chest. As soon as I landed, I froze the ground, this time as he was standing on it. He staggered backwards a bit and I stepped forward and uppercutted him. I completed my combo by sliding into his ankles as he hit the ground. Jax stood up again. This guy really was tough. I grabbed him by his ears, took my feet off the ground and put them into his abdomen, and leaned backwards. As I rolled on the ground, I pushed with my feet, sending Jax flying through the air. He landed with a thud, but stood up again. This time, it didn't look like he was in any condition to fight. "FINISH HIM!!!" Jax reeled back and forth, dizzy. He was loud and arrogant, but I really didn't have any quarrel with him. I refused to 'finish him' and let him fall to the ground on his own. "Sub-Zero wins. Flawless Victory." As the robed men were tending to Jax, I turned and ran out of the building. I was stopped at the door as a figure literally appeared in front of me. He was a ninja like me, but dressed in yellow. Scorpion! "Why did you not kill him, assassin?" His voice did not sound like a human's, but more like a Hell Hound's. It was deep, gruff, menacing, and it sent chills down my spine as he spoke. "I had no quarrel with him, so I spared him. You will not be so lucky, Scorpion!" "I see. Causing my death once is not enough for you. We shall fight again soon enough, assassin!" With that, he disappeared. Causing his death once? What did he mean? I didn't have much time to think, as the robed men were floating towards me. I ran once again and did not stop to look back. I don't know how long I ran, but when I stopped to catch my breath, I was on some kind of forest path. The forest, however, was not filled with ordinary trees. These ones had faces that moved. They were alive. I sat down, tired. It had already been a long day. More do come, definitely, and soon this time.
